Shravan star performer for Hyderabad PS

HYDERABAD: Centre-forward Shravan was the star performer for Hyderabad Public School (Begumpet) which outplayed Mamata HS for a 5-0 win in the V. Purushotham Memorial inter-school hockey tournament at Gymkhana Grounds here on Thursday. Shravan struck five goals in-a-row to seal the rival's fate.

In another match, Kendriya Vidyalaya No. II (Uppal) scored a 2-0 win against Moulana Azad School with G. Sarath and B. Karthik scoring.

Gurananak HS got a walk-over from Anand Jyothi HS (Ramanthapur).

Good spell by

Srinivas

Good bowling by S. Srinivas (six for 30) helped National CC record a five-wicket win against Gouds XI in the A-Division (one-day) league cricket championship here.

The scores: A-Division (two-day) league: SA Sports Amberpet 237 (Dinesh 79, P. Avinash Reddy 50, Mohd Faheem five for 54) drew with Zinda Tilismath 219 (Syed Mansoor 107, Paramveer Singh four for 86).

Easy win for JHPS

Jubilee Hills PS recorded a comfortable, 61-run win against DRS International in the Glendale Trophy inter-schools (under-13) cricket tournament here.

The scores: Jubilee Hills PS 156 for seven (Sujay 36) bt DRS International 95 (Pranay four for 22, Akash three for 18).

Glendale Academy 108 for seven lost to JHPS 109 for one (Sujay 38 not out, Lokesh 38

not out).

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan 120 for nine (Abhinav Reddy 38, Debashish three for 18) lost to All Saint's HS 121 for five (Himalay 41).

Murthy wins title

N.S.R. Murthy of Hyderabad defeated Ch. Sridhar Kumar 15-13, 15-11 in the singles final of the AP Transco & Discoms inter-circle badminton tournament here.

G. Sridhar and Ch. Sridhar Kumar won the doubles title getting the better of Jayaraj and Prabhakar of Ranga Reddy 15-11, 8-15, 15-11.

Nellore won the team championship putting it across Hyderabad 3-2.

The following players were picked to represent the APSEB in the All India Electricity Sports Control Board tournament in Chandigarh from November 25 to 28: N.S.R. Murthy, Ch. Sridhar Kumar, G. Sridhar, P. Ram Mohan Rao and J.V. Rao. Coach-cum-player: V. Jayaraj. Manager: N.L. Prabhakar.

Women's cricket team

S. Mithali Raj of Hyderabad was named as the captain of the Indian women's cricket team that will take on England later this month in five one-dayers and a Test match. The other two players from the city who are in the team are Noshin Al Kadir and Sravanthi.

AG AP outplays

Karnataka

AG Andhra Pradesh outplayed AG Karnatka 6-1 in the inaugural match of the IA & AD South Zone football tournament here. Samte and David Prasanna Kumar scored a brace each and Amburaj and Wahab Ansari one each to complete the tally.

For the loser, the consolation goal came through captain Raju.

Earlier, former India captain Victor Amal Raj inaugurated the tournament.

Body building tournament

The Sheelam Ramdas memorial open body building championships will be held at the Hari Hara Kala Bhavan, Secunderabad, on November 23. The Mr. Hyderabad title will be awarded to the overall champion.

Medak wins a thriller

Medak bounced back to down a spirited Nizamabad 3-2 in a men's league encounter of the senior inter-district volleyball tournament, at Kakinada on Thursday. Medak won 13-25, 14-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-8.

Lenin felicitated

At Vijayawada, 21-year-old archer Cherukuri Lenin, who was the member of the Indian team, which won the gold medal in the Olympic round at the Asian archery championship held at New Delhi recently, was felicitated by the sports fraternity of the city on Thursday.

At a function held at IGMC stadium, District Sports Development Officer B. Sudhakar, Krishna District Olympic Association president Ch. Amar, Krishna District Basketball Association president Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao, B. Satyanarayana, president, Krishna District Handball Association and several others hailed the encouraging show by Lenin.

Allauddin CC and

Jolly Rovers win

Allauddin CC defeated Jolly Rovers (Nuzvid) by five wickets, while Jolly Rovers (Vijayawada) beat Vinay CC by two wickets in the Krishna District Cricket Association B division league tournament here on Thursday.

The scores: Jolly Rovers (Nuzvid) 164 in 32 overs (V. Siva Nagaraju 46) lost to Allauddin CC 165 for five in 29 overs (Hussain 77, Mohammad 53).
