Minister, DGP unaware of crucial decision?
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Home Minister K. Jana Reddy and Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen appeared unaware of the crucial decision to lift the three-month old ban on Revolutionary Writers Association (Virasam), even at noon on Thursday.
Even as the order was being prepared in the Secretariat, the DGP emphatically stated, "There is no chance of lifting (the ban)." No decision in that direction had been taken, he added.
Initially, around noon, when media persons sought his reaction to the news at a workshop for Public Relation Officers of police, Mr. Sen merely said he had no information. But, later in the evening, the DGP issued a statement confirming receipt of the GO revoking the ban on Virasam.
"The State police headquarters received it this evening," he said, and added that the ban order on CPI (Maoist) and other frontal organisations would continue.
The Home Minister also pleaded ignorance about GO while speaking to reporters at Nalgonda as he said the State Government was still considering the issue.
