CHENNAI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Chennai Telephones brought smiles to about 200 children by rewarding them for their skills at its Children's Day celebrations on Thursday.
Competitions
Compositions heldfor employees' children aged up to 18 saw the participants displaying their talents in handicrafts, literature and sports. Employees participated in some of the events such as handicrafts and indoor games. Participating in the celebrations, C. Sylendra Babu, Joint Commissioner of Police (South), said sports should be given equal importance as academics for overall development of a student's personality.
24-hour childline
Highlighting the significance of children's rights, he cited the dedicated 24-hour childline (1098) in Chennai for children's welfare. K.B. Brahmadathan, chief general manager, Chennai Telephones, said such contests were held to promote the talent of children and encourage them to participate in more such events. A toll-free childline was recently installed by BSNL Chennai Telephones, he said. Chennai telephones has been organising competitions for children for the past 16 years.
