RTC takes decision for passengers' convenience

  • Bus shelters to be shifted to `Mississippi' hangar
  • Move to reduce traffic congestion
  • Now, 81 buses are parked outside CBS

HYDERABAD : Passengers waiting for buses at the inadequate bus shelters outside the Gowliguda central bus station can now breathe easy.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), Hyderabad city region, has decided to shift the bus shelters to the `Mississippi' hangar, that is, inside the hangar at the Gowliguda CBS.

Buses coming from Afzalgunj, Ziaguda and Rajendranagar will pass through the hangar and pick up/drop passengers once the bus shelters are shifted.

    Implementation soon

This move, to be executed shortly, will not only ensure convenience for passengers, but also reduce the traffic congestion outside the Gowliguda CBS, says Regional Manager C. Pandurangamurthy.

After construction of the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), entire activity shifted there and the old bus station became more of a workshop for refurbishing seats, chassis and body.

However, with the inadequate bus shelters and congestion caused due to buses, the authorities decided to shift the shelters inside the hangar.

A total of 81 buses, 39 of Midhani depot and 42 of Rajendranagar depot, are parked outside CBS during a change over leading to severe congestion along the carriageway.

"To avoid congestion and to provide better shelter to passengers, we decided to shift it to the hangar,' says Mr. Pandurangamurthy.

With the new move, passengers would be much more comfortable waiting for the bus at the hangar instead of waiting on the road, he added.
