Court seeks explanation on quota issue

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Government was given two weeks time to respond to prayer in a writ petition seeking exclusion of creamy layer while giving the benefit of reservation to the backward classes in the State.

The writ petition was filed by Vijaya Kumar, resident of Hyderabad, and a barber by profession. He said that the rich and influential among the BCs are still enjoying the benefits of reservations and reminded that the Supreme Court had sought a positive action from the Government to see that such persons who have attained certain economic and social status are to be excluded from scheme of reservation.

The Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice R. Subhash Reddy asked the Advocate-General who was present in the court to explain the present situation.
