HYDERABAD: From clashes during college days to alleged involvement in the murder of Telugu Desam MLA Paritala Ravindra, Moddu Sreenu's name was heard in several sensational crimes. Hailing from Challagonda village near Narsaraopet of Guntur district, Sreenu reportedly developed differences with a rival student group headed by one `check-post Srinu'. The two gangs clashed a couple of times on college related issues. One day, opponents attacked Sreenu with bombs and inflicted several knife injuries. "When Sreenu dropped unconscious, the attackers thought he was dead and left him. He can be easily recognised based on the multiple injury marks all over his body," a police officer said. This group rivalry petered out as `check-post Srinu' later shifted to Vijayawada and settled there. In March 2003, Sreenu allegedly hacked to death a wine shop owner Bhaskar Reddy in Narsaroapet. A fortnight later, the Hyderabad police Task Force officials rounded up him in Astoria Hotel at RTC Crossroads. An imported revolver and two country-made short firearms with some live rounds were seized from him.
Murder of car driver
In his confessional statement then, Sreenu admitted to having kidnapped a car driver from Chikkadpally and murdered him in Yadagirigutta. He was arrested in that murder for gain case and was later released on bail. He admitted to having made deals to kill some people in and around Guntur and Tenali. He told the police that he was forced to flee Guntur as they started to pressurise him either to execute the killings or return their money. Sreenu also said that he took part in the sensational killing of a former head constable Madhava Reddy of Mahbubnagar district. However, the police could not gather any incriminating evidence against him during subsequent investigation. Madhava Reddy had allegedly shot dead Telugu Desam MLA Erra Satyam earlier.
Supplying bombs
While his alleged criminal activities continued, Sreenu fell in love with a girl outside his caste in Narsaraopet and married her. He reportedly even used to supply bombs and played a crucial role in providing them to a former legislator in Nalgonda district a few years ago. This came to fore when the bombs accidentally went off and the whole incident transformed into a political controversy then. Sreenu's name figured in the killing of a surrendered naxalite K. Venkat Reddy, whose bullet-ridden body was found in Hayathnagar police limits in December last. Interestingly, his alleged involvement in this murder came to light after he created a sensation with his candid interview to a TV channel admitting to the killing of Paritala Ravi.
Trigger-happy?
Earlier, he allegedly shot dead a Telugu Desam leader Tagarakunta Prabhakar a couple of hundred yards away from Anantapur Two Town police station. Within days, he gunned down a surrendered naxal leader M. Venkateswar Rao at Bellary in Karnataka. Both Prabhakar and Rao were Paritala Ravindra's supporters.
