Jeweller arrested

NEW DELHI: A jeweller was arrested on charges of molesting a woman customer at Anand Vihar in East Delhi on Wednesday.

According to the complainant, the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Wednesday when she along with her three family members went to a jewellery shop owned by Rajesh Verma to buy jewellery. Rajesh showed them a chain and told them its price. The victim requested him to scale down the amount, at which Rajesh lost his cool and allegedly manhandled the complainant asking her to leave.

When her relatives objected to his behaviour, he threatened them with dire consequence. Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Rajesh.

Betting racket, two held

NEW DELHI: Two persons, who were allegedly running a betting racket on the India-South Africa one-day cricket match on Wednesday, have been arrested by the Crime Branch at Rohini in North-West Delhi.

The accused, Mukesh and Rajinder Kumar, were arrested when they were receiving calls from their clients. The police said Mukesh was the brain behind the racket. They recovered four mobile phones attacked to a recording device, another mobile phone, a television and register containing details of betting amount to the tune of Rs. 2 lakhs.

Eve-teasing: two nabbed

NEW DELHI: Two more young men have been arrested on charges of harassing a girl at Timarpur in North Delhi on Tuesday.

While Shyam, a resident of Nehru Vihar, was arrested on Wednesday, the police arrested his friends, Deepak and Sagar, after the complainant alleged that they were also involved.

On Thursday, the Minister for Commerce & Industry of the Manipur Government, N. Mangi Singh, along with the resident commissioner of the Manipur House in the Capital, met the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi), and was apprised of the progress in the investigations into the case.

Robbers in police net

NEW DELHI: Five alleged robbers were arrested at Shakarpur in East Delhi on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals would gather in a park at Shakarpur, the police mounted a raid and arrested five of them. The accused identified themselves as Vijay, Raju Haldar, Gautam, Prahlad Haldar and Rafiya.

According to the police, the criminals were planning to target a builder. A probe into their other suspected involvements in on.

Witness attacked

NEW DELHI: In yet another incident highlighting lack of security in the Tis Hazari courts, five persons accused in a murder case today attacked a witness outside a courtroom. Raghavender had just come out of Additional Sessions Judge K C Lohia's court after deposing against the five, when they roughed him up.

The accused, who were being escorted out by the police, suddenly pounced on Raghvender, slapped and kicked him as a stunned posse looked on.

This is the third instance in the last two months when undertials turned violent inside the court.

An accused in a theft case had escaped when his accomplice threw chilly powder at the police constable taking him to the court in September.
