Rule relaxed to recruit physically challenged persons

CHENNAI: The State Government on Thursday relaxed General Rule 22 (aa) of the Tamil Nadu State and Subordinate Service to facilitate the recruitment of physically challenged persons for 150 `C' and `D' posts. These posts will be filled shortly.

An official release here said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had given the instruction. She had indicated in the Assembly on March 16 the Government's decision to appoint physically challenged persons for these posts.

Persons with orthopaedic handicaps will be recruited to 50 junior assistant posts in the Animal Husbandry Department, Rural Development Department, Directorate of College Education, Labour Commissionerate and the Medical and Rural Health Services. The appointments will be made through the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.

Visually impaired persons will be recruited to 50 posts in the Directorates of Treasury and Accounts, Printing and Stationery, Teachers Education, Research and Training and the departments of Social Welfare, Revenue and Agricultural Engineering. The posts include that of 39 bookbinders, two music teachers, four telephone operators and five fitters.

Apart from this, hearing impaired persons will be recruited to 50 posts in the Electricity Board as assessors. All of them will be appointed through employment exchanges.
