Be as fit as a fiddle, State police chief tells personnel

Staff Reporter

`This will help them discharge their duties effectively'

BANGALORE: Director-General and Inspector-General of Police B.S. Sial on Friday asked the policemen to be fit and reduce their paunch. This would help them to effectively discharge their duties.

Speaking after receiving the salute at the service parade, Mr. Sial said the police played a big role in society. For effectively discharging their duties the policemen should be fit. "This will help in improving the image of the force in society," he said.

Mr. Sial later presented certificates and cash awards to 28 policemen involved in effective investigation of criminal cases. This included the 10-member team headed by Superintendent of Police Kumar S. Karning, which arrested Srinivasa Shastry and Lokesh of Viniv Inc. In an effort to improve police-public relations, the city police have come up with a novel idea of asking children to paint on the walls of the renovated police stations and new police stations coming up in the city. The first among them will be the New Upparpet police station, where a group of 25 children will depict their feelings about the police. These children will be joined by their parents in the programme.
