STAR School steals show

Coimbatore: The children from St. Ann's Rehabilitation (STAR) School, Coimbatore, stole the limelight winning ten medals in the two-day Special Olympics State level athletic meet at the Nehru Stadium here on Saturday.

About 80 children were also selected to represent Tamil Nadu in the national meet to be held at Delhi from November 28 to 30.

The results:

Boys (8-11yrs, 100m): Ability Group 1 (based on time frames): 1. Prabhakar, 2. Manikaraj, 3. Ramesh (all from STAR, Cbe).

Group 2: 1. Senthil, 2. Dharmalingam, 3. J. Nixon (all from STAR).

Group 3: 1. Ramakrishnan (BRC, Cbe), 2. Velpandi (SSS, Ramad), 3. Chinnathambi (STAR).

Group 4: 1. Atta B. Attan (SHP, Cbe), 2. S. Ramkumar (INTACT), 3. Naganathan (Sheloam).

50m (8-11yrs) Group 1: Prabhakar (STAR), 2. Moorthi (CSI, Sivakasi), 3. Bharanidharan (SAH, Cbe).

Group 2: 1. Bharath Kumar (STAR), 2. Kumar (Bala Vihar, Chennai), 3. Dinesh (STAR).

Group 3: 1. Alagasamy (CSI, Sivakasi), 2. Venkatesh (Asha Deepam, Chennai), 3. Karthikeyan (Chennai).

Boys 22-29yrs: Group 1: 1. Manikandan (Anbagam, Madurai), 2. Annamalai (BVSNM, Chennai), 3. Balaji (BVSNM).

Group 2: 1. Sundar (Anbagam), 2. Santhosh (Asha Deepam, Chennai), 3. Prasanna (Bharath, Cbe).

Group 3: 1. Murali (Carmel, Chennai), 2. Hari (DSATN, Chennai), 3. Senthil (Bharathi RC, Cbe).

Chennai triumphs

At Madurai: Chennai won the team championship with a total of 21 points in the Tamil Nadu State senior boxing championship for women organised by the Soldiers Boxing Academy here on Saturday. Soldiers finished second with 14 points.

Results (all finals): 30-32 kg: Geetha Kumari (Tvl) w/o Naseafar (Mdu).

36-38 kg: Jeevitha (Kan) bt G. Thenmozhi (SBA) 20-18; 40-42 kg: Ilakia Priya (SBA) bt Sivakami (Mdu) 20-18.

44-46 kg: E. Thulasi (Che) bt P. Priya (SBA) 20-17; 46-48 kg: E. Reka (Che) bt Renuga Devi (Mdu) 20-18; 48-50 kg: R. Linga Jothi (SBA) bt Catherine (Che) 25-20; 52-54 kg: G. Parveen (Kan) bt B.Ambika (Che) 20-18.

54-56 kg: E. Saraswathi (Che) bt P. Sujitha Angelin (SBA) 20-19; 56-58 kg: S. Kalaiarasi (Che) bt Dhivya (SBA) 20-19; 60-62 kg: A. Komaleeswari (Che) bt Pandimeena (SBA) 21-20; 62-64 kg: Bhuvaneswari (SBA) bt Revathi (Tvl) 20-18; 68-70 kg: Kalpana (Kan) bt Swena (Che) 20-18.
