Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn released a new book, "Discovery of Sanskrit Treasures", in seven volumes at the National Museum here on Saturday.

Brought out by Yash Publications, the book has been penned by well-known scholar Prof. Satya Vrat Sahatri, honorary professor of Sanskrit at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here.

Speaking glowingly of the author, Ms. Sirindhorn, who has done her Masters in Sanskrit, said that she had derived inspiration from Prof. Sahatri, who has served as an example of academic excellence.

Delivering the presidential address, the president of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Karan Singh, said Sanskrit was responsible for bringing about national integration and bringing to the forefront eminent scholars like Prof. Sahatri who have interpreted the ancient knowledge.

Comprising about 1,600 pages, the volumes are a veritable mine of information about ancient wisdom.

They deal with seven different themes for Sanskrit and Indology like grammar and linguistics, epics and Puranas, classical Sanskrit literature and modern Sanskrit literature besides philosophy and religion, South East Asian studies and society and culture.

The Vice-Chancellor of Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Vachaspati Upadhyaya, and the Director-General of National Museum, K.K. Chakravarty, were among those present at the ceremony.
