CHENNAI:
The C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre (CPREEC) is conducting a series of workshops in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala to sensitise judicial officials, especially Chief Judicial Magistrates, and NGOs, to biodiversity laws and natural resources conservation.
Inaugurating the first such workshop here on Saturday, National Biodiversity Authority chairman S. Kannaiyan said biodiversity laws incorporated conservation and sustainable use of resources. The initiative is sponsored by the British High Commission, New Delhi, and will be conducted in collaboration with the State Judicial Academy.
The judiciary needed to be educated on environmental issues as implementation and awareness of such laws needed to be fine-tuned, Justice M. Karpaga Vinayagam, Judge, Madras High Court, said.
