Lalu rubbishes exit polls

Special Correspondent

PATNA: Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Sunday rubbished the exit polls and accused the media of campaigning against him.

Mr. Prasad criticised the electronic media for reporting that there was a wave against him even as the poll process was under way for the final phase of election in 41 constituencies on Saturday.

"The polling percentage was so low. Where was the wave? The voting percentage would have been high if there had been a wave," he said.

He ridiculed the claim that there was a swing in favour of the National Democratic Alliance. "Where was the swing? The JD(U) increased its tally to 55 last time. That was the worst scenario for me. I've since consolidated my votes and supporters."

Mr. Prasad said the RJD lost seats in the February elections because of "ourselves." He claimed there was an undercurrent of support for him from a "separate caste" of the poor who listened to him.
