KADIRI (ANANTAPUR DT.): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy utilised his Rajiv Pallebaata in the district on Sunday for popularising the Government's new brain child, Indiramma Gramam'. He made it a point to explain the scheme to the people in all the 15 villages he visited. He said that `Indiramma Rajyam' would be created in the State within the next three years by developing rural areas under the new scheme. Thirty per cent of the villages would be developed under the scheme this year and 35 per cent each in the next two years.
Basic amenities
The Chief Minister tried to appeal to the women saying that irrespective of community all houseless families would be provided with houses, ration cardless households would be issued cards, drinking water, roads, pensions, school buildings and all other basic amenities required for the villages would be provided under the Indiramma Gramam scheme. After examining the groundnut crop loss in a couple of villages the Chief Minister assured that the Government would try to get as much crop insurance benefit as possible to the farmers. He also stressed the need for women empowerment and helping families to increase their income by taking up activities like dairy farming. While the previous TDP Government had given Rs. 300 crore loans every years during its last five years the Congress Government had given Rs. 1,230 crores loans last year, Rs. 2,200 crores this year and would give Rs. 3,000 crores next year to women SHGs at 25 paise interest rate. The interest rate during the TDP rule was Rs. 1.25, he mentioned. When a woman at Thogatavaripalli pointed out that they were not getting remunerative price for milk the Chief Minister assured to hike the milk procurement price from Rs. 6 to 7 per litre. He suggested to the farmers to change the cropping pattern to minimise crop loss. Ministers, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, N. Raghuveera Reddy, G. Surya Rao, the MPs--D. Nizamuddin and A. Venkatarami Reddy, several legislators, Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, also accompanied the Chief Minister.
