Irrigation projects taken up in Telangana region listed

  • Chief Minister takes part in Rajiv Pallebata programme in Kadiri constituency
  • TRS accused of deceiving people of Telangana
  • Completion of projects in time assured

KADIRI (ANANTAPUR DT.): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has ridiculed the remarks of TRS leaders that the State Government has been deceiving people of Telangana with regard to irrigation projects and development schemes.

Addressing a press conference near Rekkamanu village during his Rajiv Pallebata visit in Kadiri constituency on Sunday, he alleged that the TRS was carrying out a misinformation campaign against the State Government to regain the lost sympathy for the party in the region.

"Earlier I used to think that TRS leaders were speaking against the Government due to lack of understanding but now I have realised that they have taken up the campaign to deceive people of Telangana after the drubbing they have received in the municipal elections," the Chief Minister said.

Responding to the TRS allegation that the State Government was trying to benefit coastal Andhra by diverting the Godavari waters to the Krishna basin with Polavaram project and utilising the Krishna water for Rayalaseema through Srisailam project, the Chief Minister termed it a baseless allegation.

He explained that the water of Shabari, a tributary of the Godavari, which confluences with the Godavari in West Godavari district, was more than sufficient for the Polavaram project. The Krishna water saved from the utilisation of Polavaram (Godavari) water in the Krishna basin would be given to the backward areas in south Telangana, Rayalaseema and south coastal Andhra.

Listing the projects taken up for Telangana region, he stated that the Yellampalli project was taken up last year to irrigate lakhs of acres in Karimnagar district, Alisagar and Guptha projects were taken up in Nizamabad, Devadula-I and II projects were taken up to benefit Warangal and Dummagudem project would be taken up to irrigate about four lakh acres in Khammam within a month.

    Srisailam tunnel project

Srisailam tunnel project was taken up with Rs. 2,000 crores to benefit Nalgonda and eights lakh acres would be brought under irrigation with Nettempadu, Kalwakurthy, Bheema and Koelsagar lift irrigation schemes taken up in Mahabubnagar.

The Government was committed to complete the projects, he said.
