Khammam
Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM: Owning a house is a dream and more so in the case of people with limited income. However, for some 54,000 such families the dream will come true soon and a `mass gruha pravesam' is planned as an event of the year for Khammam, to make the occasion a memorable one. No new scheme was launched for housing such a large number of people. Just a change in the approach towards the housing programme has made it all possible. The administration had taken up online monitoring of the programme right from the stage of sanction to Gruha Pravesam. It facilitated mass sanctions, mass layout marking and grounding of the houses sanctioned under the various programmes, including the IAY, benefiting Scheduled Castes, tribes, weavers, fishermen and other disadvantaged sections. It was basically aimed at curbing the irregularities that plagued the housing programme so far. Hitherto, there were instances where in the beneficiaries were in the dark about the housing sanctions made in their name and the benefits were snatched by others. As part of the special initiative, altogether a new approach was adopted in the implementation of the programme.
Special ID cards
The beneficiaries of the programme were given special identity cards and the sanctions given online. The beneficiaries were introduced to the implementing agencies by bringing them on to a common platform. The passbooks were issued with an initial sanction of Rs 5,000, enabling them to ground the work immediately. The mandal samakhyas were entrusted with the task of making cement supply at the doorsteps as and when they required. The IT wing of the administration has barcoded the sanctions and supplies. The houses sanctioned under the process were at various stages.
