TIRUCHI : Officials who participated in the `Children's Day' celebrations organised by the `Child Labour Elimination and Effective Rehabilitation Scheme' of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) here recently were surprised over talents of students-turned-child labourers. The CHEERS organised cultural programmes in which students of its special schools participated and exhibited their talents. "We wanted to create a sense of confidence among the little students who were, for a short period in the prime of their life, denied the pleasure of childhood", said the Project Director, CHEERS, V. Jaisee Swetha. The Collector, K. Nanda Kishore, greeted the students. The Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, K. Thangaraj, said the child labour in hazardous industry in the district had been completely eliminated. Necessary notification would be issued in this regard. A special education tour was organised and the children were taken to the Anna Science Centre - Planetarium. Mrs. Parvathy Nanda Kishore gave away prizes to the winners in various competitions.
