GETTING READY: Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy being helped to wear the customary robes for the Municipal Council meeting in Kurnool on Monday.
KURNOOL: The Municipal Council held its maiden meeting here on Monday. Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy chaired the meeting. Members opposed the move to sell the 23-acre plot near Johrapuram which was being used as compost yard now. The members suggested that the land be converted into a park and additional land be acquired at another location to create new dumping ground. The meeting mooted a proposal for improvised underground drainage system in the city at a cost Rs. 150 crores. Also, a proposal costing Rs. 50 crores to create infrastructure for supply of water round-the-clock was cleared. The council decided to widen six roads to an uniform width of 60 feet at Coles College-Nehru Road, One Town Police Station-Flower Market, Kids World-Flower market, Old Bus Stand-King Market, Kallur Dharwaz-Collectorate junction, Birla Gate-NH 7 via Krishna Nagar.
Mineral water plants
The Mayor told the meeting that two mineral water plants would be set up in the city to manufacture packaged water. The members expressed delay over execution of civil works in the city and asked the council to blacklist such people.
