CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to fill the vacancies of teachers in schools soon. It will also introduce a grading system from the next academic session for the examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education for Class IX and Class X, Education Minister Phool Chand Mullana said at Panchkula on Monday. Mr. Mullana was speaking to media persons after inaugurating the new building of the Central Board of Secondary Education. Union Education Minister Arjun Singh was scheduled to inaugurate the building but he could not do so as he was admitted to the PGI here after he complained of chest pain and exhaustion. He said that the teachers would be trained before introducing grading system. The semester system was also being introduced so that the students did not lose full year. Steps were also being taken to improve the functioning of the School Education Board. The CBSE chief, Ashok Ganguly, said that the grading system would be introduced for examinations from the next academic session and at the same time other boards in the country would also be urged to adopt this system. A new scholarship scheme would be introduced from the next academic session under which a scholarship of Rs. 500 per month would be awarded to those 50 students who would give outstanding performance in sports. A scholarship of Rs.500 per month would be given to the top-ranking students in the CBSE medical and and engineering examinations. Chandigarh Lok Sabha MP Pawan Kumar Bansal and CBSE Controller of Examination Kamlesh Kumar also spoke.
