Devotion to God a private matter: I-G

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Inspector-General of Police D. K. Panda, in the news recently for declaring himself as Radha and attending the office dressing up as a woman, hit out at his detractors on Monday saying his devotion for God was a private matter and had nothing to do with the Government or the administration.

``How I pray and whom I worship is a private matter concerning me and has nothing to do with the Government or the Administration,'' said Mr. Panda, who appeared in his police uniform during the day to meet the Director-General of Police, Yashpal Singh.

After the meeting, Mr. Panda said he went to meet the DGP on the directive of his Lord and the meeting was cordial.

To a recent demand by a retired DGP that he should be dismissed from service for dressing up as a woman, Mr. Panda said ``he (former DGP) was not aware of what bhakti and devotion were. He should come to me and I will tell him about bhakti.''

``The yellow robe during worship evokes pure thoughts and feelings in me,'' he said on his dressing up in yellow as a woman.

Mr. Panda has already moved an application for his voluntary retirement which has been forwarded to the Government. The DGP has also sent his report on Mr. Panda and recommended strict action against him.

Meanwhile, the UP government has initiated probe against a self-styled God, General Manager (Technical) of the State Road Transportation Corporation (UPSRTC) Gyanendra Pratap Singh. Mr Singh is accused of neglecting his work and giving sermons on spirituality for the past one year. A senior official claimed that a committee has been formed to probe his activities. - PTI &UNI
