Indira Gandhi Canal water for Nagaur

Chief Minister Raje announces 3,000-crore scheme

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Sunday announced a Rs. 3,000-crore scheme for bringing the Indira Gandhi Canal waters to Nagaur district to evolve a permanent solution to the problem of salinity and high fluoride contents in the water in the region.

Ms. Raje, addressing a huge farmers' meeting at the site of a cattle fair in Nagaur, said the State Government had already sanctioned Rs. 740 crores for implementation of the scheme's first phase which would benefit 63 villages in Nagaur and Mundwa tehsils.

The Chief Minister announced, amid applause by those attending the meeting, that a circle office and a division office under the scheme would shortly start functioning at the district headquarter.

Ms. Raje pointed out that the European Commission's Sector Investment Programme was in operation for the health sector in Nagaur district, as part of which Rs. 60 lakhs had been invested for constructing the Swasthya Bhavan. She said the Government hospital at Ladnu would soon be expanded to accommodate 100 beds for patients.

Referring to the plan to construct a town hall in the city, Ms. Raje said while the citizens would contribute 50 per cent of its cost, the State Government would sanction Rs. 35 lakhs for the purpose.

Technical university

The Rajasthan Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, on Monday announced that a technical university would soon be established in Kota to strengthen the educational infrastructure in the State and improve the quality of technical education. Its construction will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 30 crores to Rs. 35 crores.
