CHENNAI: A quiz competition hosted by the United States Educational Foundation in India to mark International Education Week (IEW) tested 19 school teams from Chennai on the history, geography, literature, music and dance of India and the U.S.
Certificate awarded
The first prize went to Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Senior Secondary School, KK Nagar. The team was awarded a certificate and a trophy and each of the participants received gift vouchers worth Rs. 500 from Landmark. Chettinad Vidyashram came in second. The other two teams that reached the finals were Shrine Velankanni Senior Secondary School and PS Senior Secondary School. The band from American International School performed a few international instrumental pieces. Students from Adyar and Besant Nagar schools gave a brief performance of Carnatic instrumental music.
Beyond borders
Saad Bokhari, Vice-Consul of the American Consulate General, said Americans want to look beyond borders in the education field. "And the U.S. has lots to contribute in higher education and education for children with disabilities." IEW was initiated by the Departments of State and Education to promote the U.S. international education policy. It is celebrated in over 100 countries now.
