Three policemen among eight persons chargesheeted for robbery in Park Town

CHENNAI:
Eight persons, including three policemen, have been charge-sheeted in connection with an incident at Park Town here in June this year, in which a gang took away nearly Rs.4 lakhs from a person belonging to Madurai.
The charge sheet has been taken on file.
The final report has been filed in the court of VIII Metropolitan Magistrate, George Town, for offences under 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 395 (punishment for dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code.
The policemen are Meenakhisundaram, Panneerselvam and Bhaskaran, all from Madurai district. The other accused are S. Ravi of the Nilgiris, Marimuthu of Tirumangalam, Madurai, Muthu Saravanan, a driver, Hanifa of the Nilgiris and Sowkath Ali of Kerala. The police said Ashok Kumar, along with Baluswamy of Madurai, was returning with cash after a transaction, when he was intercepted.
Two policemen were arrested. Based on their information, the other policeman and five others were arrested. The case, initially handled by the Flower Bazaar police, was transferred to the City Central Crime Branch.
