Rain turns focus on ticket refund

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: As rain lashed Chennai on Monday, cricket buffs were caught in a piquant situation. Will the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) refund the money if the one-day cricket match between South Africa and India is washed out on Tuesday.

The conditions printed on the reverse of the tickets say that "duration of the game is not guaranteed. No refund will be given under any circumstances." But cricket enthusiasts feel let down. Since the city has been witnessing a heavy downpour since Monday morning, the organisers should refund the ticket cost in the event of a total wash out of play.

Fans wonder whether the organisers can absolve themselves of all refund liabilities by merely printing a clause that no refund was possible.

"I am highly disappointed. If the match is fully abandoned they should reimburse the money. If the match is rescheduled this ticket should be valid for that day. We hope that the match will take place. My son has been asking about refund. Even if it is late by a few hours also we hope the match goes on," said M. Ganesh Mohan, who bought two Rs.1,000 tickets as a gift for his son on his birthday. When contacted late in the evening by The Hindu , C.R. Vijayaraghavan, honorary secretary of the TNCA, was not willing to come out with an official response on the issue.
