NEW DELHI: Saifullaha, identified as the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) district commander of Bandipore in the Kashmir Valley, was shot dead in an encounter with a joint team of the Special Cell of the Delhi police and its Jammu and Kashmir counterpart at Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Ajay Kumar said that while probing the October 29 serial blast case, a team headed by Sanjeev Yadav was tipped off that Saifullaha was planning to dispatch a module to carry out another terrorist strike in the capital. The Special Cell found out that Saifullaha was hiding in the Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar. In coordination with the State Special Operation Group, Special Cell sleuths surrounded his hideout on Sunday night. When they asked Saifullaha to surrender, he hurled grenades at them injring two Jammu and Kashmir police personnel. And the militant started firing indiscriminately. The raiding party returned fire killing him.
