MUMBAI: The Tatas-controlled Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL) on Tuesday announced forging a strategic alliance with Microsoft India for launching a web conferencing service that will allow users to hold real time and visually rich online meetings. The service, christened `Tata Indicom Web Conferencing Service' based on Microsoft Office live meeting platform, will address the needs of small and medium business enterprises. "This new offering by VSNL will help businesses to cut costs, increase their coverage area and give services within the reach of customers,'' VSNL Director, Kishore Chaukar, told reporters here. The company was looking at increasing the range of services through this tie-up, he said. "Our endeavour will be to deliver the next generation of real time communication to enterprises in India. Our latest offering will enable our customers to meet the twin objectives of enhancing team communication and reducing travel time," he said. "The partnership will not be restricted to web conferencing alone and can be extended to offering services in solution areas such as communication and collaboration, software as a service for small and medium business customers, mobility and consumer digital media services video and music, richer content and software on tap of your computers,'' he said. Microsoft India Managing Director, Neelam Dhawan, said, "A few years ago it would have been impossible to think of deriving synergies between the telecom and information technology industries. The rapid growth of telecom networks and adoption of IT is fostering a market place that is ready for converged solutions." The launch of this service was an example of the powerful converged solutions that such a partnership could provide, she said. PTI
