CAT and the city

Kozhikode has been a centre for the Common Admission Test (CAT) for entry to premier management institutes for the last seven years. To take the test, candidates from all over the State come to the city on the third Saturday of November every year. Autorickshaw drivers and lodge and hotel owners remember this date, as this national-level test helps them make a few extra bucks. The autorickshaw drivers in the city, who have a reputation for being honest, ask those who land at the railway station or the bus station if they have come to crack CAT, a candidate says. Getting a room to stay in the city on the eve of the test is difficult — all hotels and lodges will be packed with candidates.
