COIMBATORE: The Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner is examining representations from the industry and the Coimbatore MP, K. Subbarayan, on the availability of Chinese knitted cotton fabric in Tirupur, "in huge quantity on cheaper rates than that of our local rates." According to the Deputy Director , D. Bandopadhyay "we will study issues such as price and quantum of imports." A report would be prepared in a day. The landed cost of the Chinese fabric was said to be 25 per cent less than that of the fabric produced domestically. This would be studied. He requested industry associations to cooperate with the regional office and provide the required data.
