Suspect motives

To remain in the limelight is obviously the motive of those behind the protests against the actors Kushboo and Suhasini. More publicity has been given to Ms. Kushboo's utterance than to its background. A majority of the media, especially the electronic media, made it appear that she had come down on Tamil women in general. Other saner voices revealed that her remarks were in response to the queries on AIDS.

It is a good sign that many voices are being heard in support of freedom of speech and the need to observe decency in showing disagreement with other people's views.
