CHENNAI : As many as 13 Haj flights between December 4 and 15 will transport over 4,000 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Jeddah from Chennai. According to K. Allaudin, Member-Executive Officer of the Tamil Nadu State Haj Committee, who held a coordination meeting of various State and Central agencies connected with the pilgrimage, the return flights would be between January 16 and 28. He said the Tamil Nadu State Haj Committee, aided by the Tamil Nadu Haj Service Society, would provide transit accommodation for outstation pilgrims. A camp office would function at the Tamil Nadu Baithul Hujjaj (Haj House) in Chennai where all the pilgrims would report two days prior to their departure and receive travel documents. He said Air India, as handling agents of Saudi Arabia Airlines, would open "remote check-in counters" at the Haj House a day prior to the flights. All checked-in baggage would be handed over by the pilgrims who would be handed over their boarding cards. They would be transported to the airport in buses. Customs and Immigration departments would operate dedicated counters for the pilgrims. He said the Airports Authority of India (AAI) would put up a shamiana in front of the terminal building for prayers.
