CHENNAI : ACMEE-2006, the next in the series of biennial international industrial exhibition to be conducted here in June by the Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers' Association and the AIEMA Technology Centre, will serve as a forum for foreign firms keen on outsourcing their requirements from India. Some of the leading names in automotives, including Cummins, Scania and Volvo, are likely to send their teams to the seventh edition of the exhibition, the organisers told presspersons here on Tuesday. Besides the visits, some foreign firms are expected to display their wares. Five companies, including Mitsubishi, have confirmed participation. Spread across 4,500 square metres of stall area in the Chennai Trade Centre, the five-day exhibition will begin on June 8. The theme is "an opportunity for growth." It will display products under the categories of automobiles, computer and peripherals, machinery and machine tools, electrical and equipment and electronics and controls. K.S. Jeyaraman, convenor, ACMEE-2006, said the number of participants was expected to be 400, as against 300 in the previous edition and 171 in the first edition in 1994. Business worth Rs.60 crores is to be generated, and around 1.75 lakh visitors are expected at the event, which for the first time is being projected as a platform for firms interested in outsourcing. It will provide opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs to enter into marketing export tie-up with foreign companies and a platform for foreign exhibitors to exhibit and market products. The other features are exclusive pavilions for women entrepreneurs and for equipment from engineering colleges, computerised registration for business visitors and talent competitions. A web site, www.acmee.in, will give details of the event. Exhibition chairman R. Selvaraj said companies from the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Israel, Taiwan, Korea, Australia and Sri Lanka were expected to participate. AIEMA president K.P. Shashidar Rao said that at a recent meeting, the organisers urged officials of the Industries Department to extend government subsidy available for participating in foreign exhibitions to those taking part in ACMEE-2006 too. The organisers offered discounts to those registering before December and small-scale industrial units and the AIEMA members.
Expo centre
AIEMA Technology Centre chairman Dilip Kumbhat has appealed to the Chief Minister to consider setting up of an exhibition centre on ten acres of idle land under the control of the Tamilnadu Small Industries Corporation Limited (TANSI) at the Ambattur industrial estate.
