Private apparel park in Tirupur

Staff Reporter

Four-acre facility will have 23 units; to be ready for occupation by January 2007

COIMBATORE: J.S. Promoters of Tirupur is setting up a private hosiery park at Thirumuruganpoondi, 10 km west of Tirupur.

The four-acre park will have 23 units and will be ready for occupation by January 2007.

Nearly 10 lakh people live at and around Tirupur. Besides, a lot of workers commute daily from nearby villages. With their business expanding, especially this year, many units that just stitch garments and supply to large-scale exporters are increasing their production.

Further, middle-level overseas buyers are looking out for tie-up with smaller units that need to improve their production process and capacity.

These units are mostly located in the residential areas and are unable to increase the production area beyond a limit, says K.J. Prabhakaran, Chief Executive, J. S. Promoters.

The suppliers need to shift to new premises that workers access easily and that have scope for further expansion. It is not possible for them to find adequate space in the town. A number of workers commute to the garment units at Tirupur from Avinashi and nearby places.

Hence, the company has decided to promote an apparel park at Thirumuruganpoondi at an estimate cost of Rs. 14 crores. Each unit will be 6,000 square feet with a ground floor and two more floors for stocking goods, production and displaying products.

Ceramic tile flooring, compound wall each unit, broad roads, security system and campus service are some of the features. Six units have booked space.

The company will also help the units tie up with banks for financial assistance.

"Each shed will be priced between Rs. 50 lakhs and Rs. 70 lakhs, including land and building cost."

Potential buyers include new entrepreneurs, large-scale exporters who have several suppliers, and investors.
