Chennai: Unaffected by bad weather or the media blitz which focussed more on the one-day cricket tie between India and South Africa, which however was abandoned on account of heavy rain, the preparatory hockey camp at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium is progressing quietly to the crucial stage of final selection. The 18 for the Champions Trophy starting on December 18 is expected to be named after the two-day trials on November 25 and 26. Both the trainers as well as the coaches are satisfied with the work done so far in the camp. Barring skipper Dilip Tirkey, drag flicker Sandeep Singh and striker Gagan Ajit Singh, who figured in the Dutch league, the others had joined the camp last week. The Tirkey brothers, Ignace and Prabhodh, who missed the early part of the camp on account of a death in the family began working with the rest a few a days ago. Junior World Cuppers, Rajah and Niten, who also played in the Dutch league, and V.S. Vinay who had stint in Spain, are in full trim and participating in the preparatory workouts and exercises. Gagan Ajit Singh is expected to join on Wednesday. Dilip Tirkey, held up in his home town, may come in on November 25. The IHF Secretary, Jothikumaran, who is also the Organising Secretary of the Champions Trophy hoped that the team would be finalised by November 27, and be submitted to FIH immediately.
