HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Tuesday arrested S. Ramani Bharathi Kumari, Assistant Civil Surgeon of the Community Health Centre of Patapatnam in Srikakulam district, on the charge of receiving Rs. 2,500 bribe from a patient. Ex-Maoist dies

PUTTAPARTHI: A former dalam member of CPI (Maoist), Mallesh (25), who was allegedly shot by the Maoists at Peruru on November 2, succumbed to injuries in the General Hospital at Kurnool on Tuesday. Mallesh, a native of Mangapuram village in Ramagiri mandal had surrendered to the police two months ago. He was allegedly picked up by the Maoists two days prior to the attack and tortured. - Staff Reporter

TSS wants university in Karimnagar

KARIMNAGAR: The Telangana Sangharshana Samithi (TSS) has urged Chief Minister Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy to establish a university in Karimnagar district for the development of the backward district. In a memorandum faxed to the Chief Minister's office, a copy of which was released to the media here on Tuesday, the TSS president J. V. Narsinga Rao urged the Government to establish the university in Karimnagar at the earliest so that the local youth would be guided properly to follow the right path with higher education. He said setting up of a university would expose local youth to developmental aspects and they would strive for the development of district. Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: Twenty NCC cadets of Nalanda Junior and Degree College here voluntarily donated blood at a blood donation camp organised by the 32 (Andhra) Bn NCC, Adilabad at the Government hospital on Tuesday.
