Yet another bomb hoax

NEW DELHI: Yet another call claiming that a bomb had been planted at the Delhi police headquarters at ITO led the Bomb Disposal Squad to comb the entire premises on Tuesday. However, the call was declared a hoax after no explosives were found.

Around 5-15 p.m., the Police Control Room received an anonymous call claiming that a bomb was going to explode at the police headquarters. The search was called off after two hours.

Later, the call was traced to a public booth. The police are trying to trace the mischievous caller.

Camps for special persons

NEW DELHI: To provide various services to differently-abled people living in New Delhi and West Delhi, the Government is organising three-day camps in the two districts beginning Wednesday.

Announcing this on Tuesday, Delhi Social Welfare Minister Yoganand Shastri said physically challenged people living in these two districts could avail themselves of the services, including issuance of disability certificates, identity cards, forms for stipends and scholarships, besides DTC bus passes.

The Old Age Home at Tilak Vihar and LNJP Hospital in New Delhi will be the venues for the camps.

Nehru Bal Mela concludes

NEW DELHI: The 43rd eight-day "Nehru Bal Mela" organised by Nehru Bal Samiti and Indo-Russian Council for Child Development in cooperation with Bal Vikas Samiti and Bal Vikas Foundation concluded here this past week.

The Mela saw the participation of a 25-member cultural delegation headed by the Principal of Hindi Boarding School No. 19 of Moscow, Melnik Tatyana, and a large number of school children from various educational institutions across the Capital and neighbouring towns. The highlights of the event included a daily painting competition, competitions in fine and performing arts and a fund-raising "Children's Walk for Nehru's Thoughts".

Art gallery inaugurated

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Assembly Speaker, Chaudhary Prem Singh, inaugurated an art gallery, "Best of India", near Qutab Minar here on Tuesday.

Describing Delhi as the best platform for promoting craft skills of the country, Mr. Singh said the new gallery would give tourists a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage of India. The gallery has paintings, antique pieces, items of brass, copper, marble, mirror work as well as handloom items.

New school buildings opened

NEW DELHI: In an attempt to spread education to remote areas of the Capital, Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely inaugurated four new school buildings at Bawana in Outer Delhi on Tuesday.

Mr. Lovely also announced plans for construction of a mini-stadium at Daryapur School in the area.
