Remembrance meeting

THRISSUR: The district committee of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) organised a meeting at the Press Club here on Tuesday to remember the contributions of the renowned journalist V.K. Madhavankutty, who passed away recently. Delivering the remembrance talk, the noted journalist K.M. Found guilty

THRISSUR: Vigilance Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge, Thrissur, M.V. Viswanathan has held that K.Srinivasan, 62, of Punkunnam in Thrissur is guilty of the charges of financial irregularities he had allegedly committed during 1971-74 when he was a clerk in the Health Department. According to the vigilance police, Srinivasan was then working at the Kunnamkulam Government Hospital and had misappropriated nearly Rs.1,900 in purchases.

UTS launched at

railway station

THRISSUR: The Railway authorities introduced the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) at the Thrissur railway station from Tuesday. Railway officials said the UTS would enable the passengers to buy unreserved tickets three days ahead of the journey. Since the date of journey is excluded, the passengers can actually buy the tickets four days in advance, the sources said. The sources said the facility is likely to be introduced in three more stations in the division, Angamaly, Chengannur and Thiruvalla, as well as at Pampa in the next few days. — Staff Reporter

BSNL scheme suspended

THRISSUR: The BSNL authorities have decided to temporarily discontinue the booking for the CellOne mobile connection under the Government Employees Plan Scheme (Plan 100) from November 24 to 30. A release from the BSNL authorities here on Tuesday said the decision was taken to complete the activation of already booked applications under the scheme. The booking under the scheme will be reopened from December 1 and will continue till December 31, the release said. — Staff Reporter

Burglary

THRISSUR: A five-member gang broke open the house of a 75-year-old woman and decamped with ornaments weighing about seven sovereigns at Mylippadam on Monday night. The police said the woman, K.T.K. Varma, was staying alone with only a domestic maid to help her. The gang had also assaulted her when she resisted them. - Staff Reporter
