Rajahmundry: The Andhra Pradesh Press Academy (APPA) is planning to digitalise old dailies soon.

Participating in the `Meet the Press' programme arranged by Rajahmundry Press Club here on Tuesday, the chairman of APPA, Devulapalli Amar, said that they have already made micro films of 16 lakh pages of different magazines, published autobiographies of giants in journalism and also going to publish some more books on those who rendered valuable services to journalism in English dailies also.

He said that the proposal to digitalise newspapers was with the Government and hoped that at any time the Government would give its nod for the programme.

Workshops held

Mr. Amar said that his academy had conducted many workshops to sharpen the professional skills of urban as well as the rural scribes and taught basics in computer education. He said that the APPA had made CDs of 25 senior most journalists and their experience and kept those videos in their library.

Answering to a question, he said that they had already conducted National Round Table on `Is there any need to draw a Lakshmana rekha for media' with editors very recently and finally came to the conclusion that media should draw it's own Lakhmana Rekha in the competitive world.

Criticism on media

He agreed that criticism on media by Legislature, Judiciary and Executive had increased in recent times.

He said that they had published the minutes of the National Round table in a book form and it was released few days ago.

Mr. Amar said that they had requested the Government to keep APPA publications in all libraries in the State.

Answering to a question, he said that there were some newspapers that were doing businesses under the pretext of bringing out newspaper. Press Club president V.S.S. Krishna Kumar, vice-president Bhaktavatsalam and secretary D. Sampath spoke.
