ALAPPUZHA: The former Chief Minister A.K. Antony will inaugurate the welfare activities being organised by Samunnathi, a non-governmental organisation here, in connection with the 30th anniversary celebrations of the National Thermal Power Corporation. Samunnathi president B. Rajendran and the manager (human resource) of the NTPC Kayamkulam, T.K.S, Nair, said here that Mr. Antony would inaugurate the programme at a function to be held at NTPC Club in Cheppad on December 8. K.S. Manoj, MP, would preside over the function. Those who would speak at the function include T.K. Devakumar and M.M. Hassan, both MLAs, and NTPC Kayamkulam additional general manager A.P. Thrivedi. Financial aid to poor patients and scholarships to talented students would be distributed at the function.
Merit certificates
The NCC Commander Lt. Colonel Aswini Suthan would handover merit certificates to the participants of an anti-AIDS awareness rally to be organised jointly by Samunnathi, NTPC and NCC on December 1. Mr. Rajendran said the welfare activities being planned included free computer classes to eligible students and free Ayurveda medical camps in Arattupuzha, Chingoli, Cheppad and Pallippad panchayats in the district. Free diabetic camp and a free camp for detection and removal of cataract would also be organised, he said.
