Minister makes surprise visits

NALGONDA: Minister for Social Welfare Redya Naik on Tuesday made surprise visits to various hostels in Bhongir and Mothkur towns in Nalgonda district and grilled the wardens and teachers on the quality of services being provided for the inmates.

He asked the officials to place under suspension the headmaster of the tribal residential school on the charge of dereliction of duty. He spent nearly half-an-hour at the girls' hostel and interacted with the inmates. On coming to know that the warden was not staying there, he ordered the officials concerned to stop her increment.

Warning to teachers

He warned teachers and wardens of stringent action, if they failed to deliver.

Later the Minister went straight into the classroom of the residential boys' school and questioned the students. He asked the officials to ensure total pass percentage, "since the Government is spending crores of rupees to improve the quality of services and better education for the inmates."

Accompanied by officials, he rushed to Mothkur to inspect some more hostels. To the surprise of the Minister, only 73 students of the 122 were there at the ST hostel, according to reports. He asked the inmates about the quality of food and supply of dresses and notebooks. He inspected the social welfare boys' hostel and checked the quality of rice.
