Three sentenced to life for murder

Coimbatore: The Principal District Sessions Judge, A. Rathnavelu, on Tuesday sentenced three persons to life imprisonment for murder.

According to the prosecution, Ramasamy, father of Podari Narayanasamy (58), gave two-acre land at Senjerimalai in Palladam to his daughter Lakshmi. The land was used by Lakshmi's son Damodaran.

Irked over his father's decision, Narayanasamy along with his sons N. Sundarraj (22) and N. Govindaraj (20) hacked Damodaran to death on November 2, 2003.

The judge found the three accused guilty of the offence and sentenced them to life term besides slapping a fine of Rs. 10,000 each.

Failing to pay the fine, the accused shall undergo one more year of rigorous imprisonment, Mr. Rathnavelu said.

Damodaran's wife Muthulakshmi shall be paid a compensation of Rs 25,000 from the fine amount of Rs 30,000. The trial period already undergone will be set off against conviction under Section 428 of Criminal Procedure Code, the judge added.
