Special Correspondent
Udhagamandalam: The Nilgiri Hotels and Restaurants Association (NHRA) expressed concern over the deplorable condition of roads in various parts of the Nilgiris, particularly Udhagamandalam. At the Annual General Meeting of the association held here on Monday, speakers said that despite assurances, the condition of the roads was going from bad to worse. The administration should put in place a plan of action to improve roads as early as possible. The meeting also hoped that a blueprint would be prepared for the promotion of tourism and tea since the economy of the district depended on them. Adverting to the granting of World Heritage Site status to the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, the meeting commended all those who worked towards it. The association urged the Government to maintain the line, particularly the stations properly and plant ornamental trees on vacant lands of the railways.
