BJP flays "casual attitude" to the flood-hit States

We will raise the issue in Parliament: Venkaiah

M.Venkaiah Naidu

CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday criticised the Centre for adopting a "casual attitude" towards the flood-hit southern States.

BJP vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu told mediapersons that Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were very badly affected. The Tamil Nadu Government had submitted a memorandum to the Centre. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister met the Prime Minister thrice and the Karnataka Chief Minister once. Still, no Central assistance was forthcoming. Mr. Naidu said all this showed that the Centre was "insensitive" to the sufferings of the people in the South. After the tsunami, the floods might have a disastrous impact on the economy of Tamil Nadu. "Though our representation from the southern region is less, we will raise this issue during the winter session of Parliament."

On the controversy over actress Kushboo's observations on pre-marital sex, Mr. Naidu said though his party did not subscribe to her views, it did not approve of the manner of protest.
