CHENNAI:
More youth should be attracted towards listening to classical music, M. Murali, managing director of Sri Krishna Sweets, said on Sunday.
He was participating in the concluding day of the 10th music festival organised after 40 years of inception of the Mylapore Arts Academy. "The Sri Krishna Sweets and other organisations will soon organise a music competition for college students. Prizes will be given to those who make a good presentation on aspects of music and Bharatanatyam," he said.
Applications for the contest will be distributed in colleges and at Sri Krishna Sweets outlets from December 1.
R. Raman, joint secretary of the Academy, said the concluding day was being offered as a tribute to Madurai Mani Iyer who was the first to give a Carnatic music concert for the Academy in 1966.
N. Ethirajan, honorary secretary of the Academy, was present. The concluding session was followed by a vocal concert by T.V. Sankaranarayanan.
