Police Commissioner's test

K.T. Sangameswaran

Chennai: How alert are the city police personnel?

This question may arise in one's mind in the wake of the Delhi blasts which claimed several lives.

The Police Commissioner, R. Nataraj, is no exception to this kind of scepticism. Known to be a no-nonsense man who goes round the city to get first hand information, he went a step further.

Decoy personnel

He recently sent a few decoy personnel to different commercial areas in Chennai, and asked them to place harmless `devices' to find out whether the police detect them. Of course, initially, the personnel did not notice the `devices'.

However, when the Commissioner told them about his plan, they plunged into a fit of activity and detected the `devices' quickly.
