Capt. A. Ranganathan invited to address ICAO meet

Capt. A. Ranganathan

CHENNAI: A Chennai-based senior Boeing training commander is getting more global recognition.

Capt. A. Ranganathan, who has over 19,000 flying hours experience, has been invited by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to make a presentation on "Wet Runway Operations".

William R. Voss, Director of Air Navigation Bureau of the Montreal-based global body, ICAO, in a communication to Capt. Ranganathan has informed him that members of the Air Navigation Commission had also been invited for the presentation, scheduled to be held in Montreal, Canada, on November 24.

Capt. Ranganathan says the meeting will recommend to the ICAO ways to change or strengthen the present standards of operations on wet runways. Pertinently, the veteran pilot got the Best 2005 Technical Paper award for his presentation on "Wet Runway Operations" before the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI).

He received the award, the first by an Indian, from the ISASI President and Manager of the Office of the Accident Investigation of the Federal Aviation Administration, Frank Del Gandio, in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 15.

The 57-year-old pilot is a product of the Madras Flying Club and the core group member of the Task Force set up by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on the Approach and Landing and Accident Reduction (ALAR) Procedure.

He had compiled a training kit, on behalf of the DGCA, for enabling commercial pilots to follow safe flying procedures during adverse weather conditions.
