HAPPY REUNION: The infant in sound sleep in mother's comfort. - PHOTO: K. RAMESH BABU
HYDERABAD: A baby girl, who was allegedly abducted on November 2 from Koti, was back in the warm comfort of her mother's lap on Tuesday. The abductors, for some mysterious reasons, deserted the baby in the parking lot of Government Maternity Hospital at Nayapul within two hours of the adduction, East Zone DCP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy said at a press conference here.
DNA tests confirm the status
However, the police came to know about the abandoned baby on November 15 only while perusing hospital records as part of the hunt for the abducted infant. "Our doubts strengthened on learning that the baby at Nayapul hospital was found within two hours of the abduction from Koti," the DCP explained. Investigators took infant's mother Glory to the hospital and she recognised the baby as hers. To establish the parenthood, the police got the DNA tests that confirmed Glory as biological mother of the infant. Twenty-year-old Glory of Amberpet approached the Sultanbazar police on November 2 saying that a woman, who befriended her in a bus, abducted her daughter when she went to the maternity hospital for check-up. For next 13 days, detectives combed several areas, questioned many suspects and released a portrait of the accused woman, but could not stumble upon any clue. However, the police could not explain as to why it took them 13 days to find out that the baby was abandoned at Nayapul hospital. The hospital authorities informed the Charminar police about the deserted child after making entries in the general diary. The police are also clueless about the identity of the abductors, and the motive behind the abduction.
