Good response to handicrafts exhibition

KOCHI: A ten-day handicraft exposition and sale is on at the Women's Association Hall on Diwan's Road here.

The exposition, which features hand-made products for daily use at home, office and shop as well as for showcasing, is organised by the Jawaharlal Memorial Social Welfare and Public Co-operation Centre at Thalayolapparambu in Ernakulam district. Daily-use products made of mat-grass, cane, clay and palm fibres add colour to the exposition.

The mat weavers of the cluster development programme of the centre make many of the products on sale. It also brings products from such programmes from across the State.

The exposition is supported by the Handicrafts Development Commissioner's office of the Union Textile Ministry. It is part of the Ambedkar Hasthshilp Vikas Yojna (AHVY), which helps to revive and promote the myriad crafts of India's rural craftspeople.

The show is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will close on November 27.
