Estimates Committee sitting today

KOCHI: The Estimate Committee of the Assembly will hold a meeting at the Collectorate Conference Hall on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The members include Nalakath Soopy, K. Babu, K.C. Joseph, K. Mohammadali, G. Karthikeyan, P. Narayanan, K.P. Satheesh Chandran, K. Sudhakaran, A. Sujanapal and Pirappankode Murali.

The meeting will review the projects being implemented by the Department of Rural Development through the District Rural Development Agency. — Staff Reporter

IT exhibition

KOCHI: I.T. 2005, a three-day mega information technology exhibition, will begin at the Ernakulam Town Hall on Thursday. The event will be inaugurated by State IT secretary P.H. Kurien.

The finals of the State-level IT quiz will be held on the final day of the exhibition. Students from Tamil Nadu too are participating in the quiz. The exhibition is organised by the Indian Computer Education Society. — Staff Reporter

Plea against land acquisition move

KOCHI: Activists of the Janakeeya Samity, Vaduthala, have demanded that the Cochin Port Trust drop the proposal to acquire land from families in Vaduthala for establishing rail connectivity to the Vallarpadam transhipment terminal. Instead, the rail line should pass through HPC land, Samity joint convenor P.A. Justin said. — Staff Reporter

Interview

KOCHI: Government Polytechnic College Kalamassery will hold an interview on Friday for the post of English lecturer to teach in the evening class. Selected candidate will have to teach for eight hours a week, at the remuneration of Rs.100 per hour. Retired hands too will be considered. Interested candidates must appear for the interview with necessary testimonials. — Staff Reporter

Applications invited

KOCHI: The National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources has invited applications for the post of technical assistant in a research project in the bureau premises on the CMFRI campus. They will get a consolidated pay of Rs.4,000 per month. The post is temporary and will end with the termination of the project. Those interested must walk in for an interview at 10 a.m. on November 29 with bio-data and original certificates. — Staff Reporter

Protest march

KOCHI: The Kerala Vidyarthi Sanghatana will take out a march to the Ernakulam Collectorate on November 23 to protest against the alleged sexual assault of a student at the School of Medical Education, Kottayam. — Staff Reporter

Anniversary festival

KOCHI: The 23rd anniversary celebrations of the Sree Ramakrishna Sevashramam will be inaugurated on Wednesday by Swami Poornamritanandapuri, general secretary of the Amritanandamayi Math.

The three-day celebrations, that include competitions in various cultural events, will be inaugurated by television artist Vinaya Prasad. — Staff Reporter
