Letters to the Editor
The denial by the leaders of some political parties that they were behind the continuing public agitation against actors Kushboo and Suhasini brings to mind the quote of a bureaucrat in the TV serial, Yes, Prime Minister: "Never believe rumours until they are officially denied." It is not fair to harass these stars for exercising their constitutional right to expression through resort to fascist tactics.
C.P. Srinivasan,
I totally agree with the editorial, `Intolerance that is intolerable' (Nov. 19). It is high time sane voices put an end to attempts to Talibanise our country. The nuisance value of such elements should not be underestimated. They can easily create an atmosphere where women can stop speaking out due to fear.
Sumitha S.,
War crimes This refers to the article, `War crimes and phosphorous clouds' (Nov. 23). Has the U.S. in its campaign in Iraq not killed more people than terrorist organisations? The abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib in Iraq, the restriction of access to U.N. inspectors in Guantanamo Bay, the list is endless.
