Bangalore: The Bangalore Assisted Conception Centre (BACC) has completed 15 years in the field of in-vitro fertilisation. Over 150 IVF children born came together along with their parents. Making this happen was Kamini A. Rao, Medical Director of BACC. "I am thrilled to see these children and the smile on the face of their parents. I am delighted to be in this profession and the difference that it has made to people's lives." The centre has treated over 18,000 infertile couples so far and over 1,000 IVF babies have been delivered here. Its success rate has been around 48 per cent, which is comparable to the best in the world. The centre has many firsts to its credit and that includes being the country's first infertility clinic to be granted the ISO 9001:2000 certification; first baby born using the Semen Intra Fallopian Transfer Technique in 1991; first semen bank in south India; first baby in South India to be born using Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection in 1997 and the first baby born in South India with the help of the Laser Assisted Hatching technique in 2003.
